This is because of the differences of what we are taught here in America and how they are taught in Japan. The way we learn about this piece of history is through ultimately World War 2. While we are learning about this war we see why we enter the war and what happened through the entirety of the war. We were not necessarily taught that the US were the victims, as we tried to do what was right and fight against Germany and the other powers for human rights. Nor were we portrayed as the aggressors, as we did not enter the way until we were attacked. On the other hand Japan is taught differently. They teach their youth that they were more the victims than the aggressors during the pearl harbor incident in particular. So it was hard for them to understand why we felt the way we felt about the whole entire situation. That makes it very hard for Japan and the US to have talks about this because while Japan does feel remorse and regret they are not fully apologetic because they feel like the people of the country are not to blame and the military is. I believe that Japan knew what they had done was wrong at the time, although we were to countries at war, so then in order to have it forgotten the tried to shift the blame elsewhere. I think that when they started to teach this piece of history that everyone, including the US, would slowly forget and let it die down. But it hasn’t, we remember the day every year. I believe that at the time as well, the people of Japan were more upset with the bombings. So when they remember what happened during that time, they do not go to pearl harbor like Americans do, they only choose to remember what happened to them. Rather than remembering why the bombing happened in the first place as well. This is all due to the victim mentality that they are teaching their youth about history now.
